Yvonne has been in active private practice since 1980 and is a full professor at John Tyler Community College and Assistant to the Dean.
She established the first Bereavement Counseling Certificate in Virginia and is the instructor of the majority of courses in that certificate. She is a member of the Virginia Bereavement Coalition at the Children's Hospital in Richmond.
She established with her students the Melanie Ilene Rieger Annual Conference Against Violence in Connecticut in memory of one of her Human Services students who was murdered by her boyfriend and she continues to support her parents and this conference.
Her focus is on Sibling Grief and in the area of grief reaction in foster care placement.
She has been active in establishing conferences against violence with her students and in loss by suicide.
