For the past ten years, Sandy has specialized in counseling, training and education in the field of loss and bereavement. She has worked with the bereaved of all ages both individually and in groups. Presently, she coordinates the bereavement program for Hope & Cope, a hospital based volunteer program offering support and resources for families with a cancer diagnosis, and is a sessional instructor at the McGill University School of Social Work in Montreal, Canada.

"Healing the Grieving Child" (2004): A three day workshop seminar for educators and community workers for the Anishinaabeg of Kabapikotawangag Resource Council in the Native Ojibway community in Northern Ontario, Canada.

"Good Grief" (2004): A workshop designed for volunteer caregivers who are anticipating the loss of a loved one as well as finding ways to cope with their own losses.

"Grief and the Role of the Volunteer" (2004): Guest presenter at the McGill Palliative Volunteer Training Program, addressing the issue of grief and loss for the patient and family.

"Bereavement and Anticipatory Loss Retreat" (2004): The retreat was designed to offer skills and techniques to volunteers working with patients and families in palliative care and bereavement.

"Facilitator Training Workshop" (2004): A training working shop for volunteers interested in facilitating support groups for those living with life-threatening illness and/or the bereaved.

"Anticipating the Death of a Resident" (2001): West Montreal Readaptation Center, a residence for individuals with intellectual disabilities, Montreal, Canada.
